Getting Dressed is an Act of Self-love

Inspiration is a rather overused word these days but what is the meaning of it anyway? It’s a feeling, I would say, as well as an attempt to transform that feeling into words. The text is as much important as the visual content itself, providing the commentary with a context and some kind of direction for the interpretation. So, relax and enjoy my inspirational guide, pleasure for both your eyes and mind - we stick to our Abstract Stylist promise of bringing emotional aesthetics to your physical existence!

Have you ever accidentally hit frontal camera while scrolling through Instagram? Just to see your grumpy morning face compared to those Insta vacation-brunch-amazing-outfit pictures?

Have you ever accidentally hit frontal camera while scrolling through Instagram? Just to see your grumpy morning face compared to those Insta vacation-brunch-amazing-outfit pictures? Well here’s a much-needed reality check - What's Underneath project created by mother and daughter duo Elisa Goodkind and Lily Mandelbaum under the name StyleLikeU. The latter features the interview video series focusing on fashion, style and beyond, challenging beauty standards and celebrating self-expression. Even if, all that sounds cliché in the context of the fashion industry struggling to be diverse and conceptual, you have to watch at least one episode before you judge! Because honestly, it’s kind of addictive.

Each layer of clothing reveals a vulnerable body along with experiences of self-acceptance, which proves that style is not the clothes you wear, it is who you are and how you feel in your own skin.

We also all know that it’s easier to unbosom to a stranger but how about getting undressed in front of one of them? Not even a stranger, but millions of strangers! Interviews are very much like a therapy session, plus participants have to strip to their underwear while telling the most intimate stories. The idea behind this is provoking with its openness. Each layer of clothing reveals a vulnerable body along with experiences of self-acceptance, which proves that style is not the clothes you wear, it is who you are and how you feel in your own skin. Individual, unique stories concerning body shame, sexuality, and gender issues bring out a very universal message one can relate to. The creators invite to constantly question the meaning of words, such as fashionable or stylish, defining beauty on your own terms.

And hey, next time you’re getting dressed, try to think of it as an act of self-love. You might end up in a serious relationship with yourself.
